Gli Ulivi di Montalbano is an agricultural business whose main mission is the production of extra virgin olive oil.
It is located on the first hill of La Spezia, very close to the seaside. The business was founded a few years ago and it is managed through an ad hoc partnership among the members of a family. Since then the business’ main occupation has been that of running the farming activities as well as the B&B.
The agritourism and its fields cover a surface of about 3 hectares which are cultivated, 3 hectares of woods and 0,3 hectares for the buildings and its offices.From an agricultural point of view, the business was created between 2006 and 2006 by planting 600 olive trees of the main varieties from Tuscany: Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo e Pendolino. The farm is divided in sections so to allow monocultivar production and the facility has been developed to allow the use of specialised machinery for agricultural operations and harvest.As for the buildings, they consist of a main building on 2 floors with a surface of 320 m2, three small joint one-room apartments with and addition surface of 120 m2.
The main building (the house) was newly constructed and the apartments were conceived to fit their purpose of touristic accommodation.The business respects the highest quality standards in the cultivation of olive trees, in the production and conservation of the olive oil.
The olive trees are cultivated according to regulatory standards concerning the integrated anti-parasite protection of plants.Olives are picked as soon as they are ready for distinct cultivars and they are processed on the same day.
Olive oil is then selected and conserved already bottled, in environments with controlled temperature.In 4 to 6 years, the business will produce 1000 litres of olive oil per annum. In 2012/2013 already 250 bottles of olive oil were produced from the trees planted in 2005.
The olive oil of Gli Ulivi di Montalbano will be sold to the public for the first time in 2014. The target is represented mainly by groceries businesses, wine shops and high-end restaurants, as well as our Guests at the agritourism Gli Ulivi Di Montalbano.
During 2014, Gli Ulivi di Montalbano began a new development by planting shrubs that produce fruits that are high in anti-oxidants e.g Goji berries and Maqui berries; this is to offer something extra to their customers, such as suggestion and help to improve the physical well-being. Both ranked high in the scale of natural antioxidants and the Gli Ulivi di Montalbano intends to offer its customers both fresh berries, jams and dried fruits. The products will be available in 2-3 years.
